Thimphu Tshechu or Thimphu Festival is one of the most important festival of the country. It’s held in front of Tashichhodzong, capital city of Bhutan. It is for 3 days beginning from 10th day of 8th month of Buddhist lunar calendar.

It is initiated by 4thDesi Gyalse Tenzin Rabgay in 1867 & later in 1950s His Majesty, the 3rd King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck introduced as a Thimphu Tshechu.

During the festival of 3 days, the mask dances known as Cham & Folk dances are performed. Also these mask dances invoke the deities to wipe out misfortune & increase good luck.
